France has a tricolor flag that consists of blue, white and red. The use of these three colors dates all the way back to 1789. This flag was originally meant to symbolize Paris being re-conquered by its King at the time. The color white in the flag stands for the royalty and the blue and red colors were intended to be the arms of the city. At the time, the blue was to be the color of Saint Martin. Saint Martin was a Gallo-Roman officer who tore his blue coat with his sword, giving half of it to the poor.
